Fighting Smart We have soldiers on the field of battle, fighting and killing and dying for us everyday; we will not waste them. We will fight smart and we will not jeopardize our warriors for political gain. We will approach our military and intelligence responsibilities as Americans, not party hacks and/or greedy corruptocrats.
The United States is unique in history in having a military composed completely of volunteers that is also more effective than any other on the planet. Our warriors sacrifice for us every day and we owe them a debt of honor. Most importantly, we owe them a promise that we will not risk their lives lightly. The subject of how and when we fight was discussed extensively after the Vietnam War. Ronald Reagan, Caspar Weinberger, Colin Powell and the rest of the senior leadership of the US Military set out some basic principles on how and when America goes to war. These are:
- Vital national interests of the United States(or close ally) are at stake
- Force should be used as a last resort
- The war has to be fought to be won
- When we have to fight we fight with decisive force
- We will be smart about how we use that force
- There must be Congressional and public support
We endorse this position.
Additionally, for our Fire Fifty Representatives
Huge amounts of money flow through the Defense Department. Spend it on our warriors and their needs
- not as a job program in your district
- not as a favor in return for a campaign contribution, a job for your nephew, or a straight-up bribe.
Certain congressional committees are entrusted with intelligence and military oversight responsibilities
- Don't leak secrets, regardless of how much you really, really want to
- Don't stop people from taking their positions because you are mad at the President about something else
