Chris Shays held this seat for the Republicans from 1987 to 2008, losing to Investment Banker Jim Himes. Independents outnumber either of the major parties in this district. Himes comes from privilege; his father was an executive with the Ford Foundation, a long-term and dedicated funder of the "Progressive" agenda. Himes was an investment banker with Goldman Sachs during years leading up to the current financial crisis before turning to high-level community organizing with ACORN affiliate Enterprise Community Partners.
Shays had served too long, but Connecticut 4th deserves better than Himes. Can the last New England Republican District become the the first New England Independent?
